Turning Off and On Public Folder Sharing in a Home Network

On your Windows 7 home network, you can control whether Public folders can be accessed and shared across your network, or only on the computer someone is logged into. You can change these settings in the Network and Sharing Center of Windows 7.

1

Open the Windows Control Panel, and then click Network and Internet.

The Network and Internet window appears.

2

Click Network and Sharing Center.

The Network and Sharing Center window appears.

3

In the left pane, click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.

Windows creates separate network profiles for each of your networks (for example, Home or Work and Public).

4

Under the profile you wish to change, scroll to the Public Folder Sharing section and click Turn Off Public Folder Sharing or Turn On Sharing (default). Click Save Changes.

Follow these steps again as needed to turn on or off public folder sharing again.
