Three Regions of the BlackBerry PlayBook Touchscreen

Consider some metaphorical places on the front touchscreen of the BlackBerry PlayBook when you are looking at the home page. Although the entire screen can display a single image or document page, the operating system divides it into three areas:

  • Status bar. The top portion of the screen is where you get notifications about your tablet when in use. Typically you’ll see info like the number of messages in the e-mail inbox, the time and date, the connection status for Bluetooth or WiFi communication, and the battery charge. All the way to the right is the Option button, which opens up pages of controls for the device.

  • Open apps. The central portion of the screen is the home of any apps currently running on the device.

  • App list. The bottom third of the screen displays a scrollable list of available apps. You can tap these options:

    • All to see all (how unlikely)

    • Favorites to see just those apps you love

    • Media for audio and video apps

    • Games for entertainment

    • BlackBerry Bridge to jump electronically from your tablet to your linked BlackBerry smartphone to use some of its data or facilities
