The CareerAmp and InTheDoor Job Apps on Facebook

CareerAmp and InTheDoor are two job apps that help job seekers network on Facebook. Unlike LinkedIn, Facebook was designed strictly as a social media site, not as a professional networking site.

CareerAmp on Facebook

CareerAmp is a very simple career plug-in for your Facebook Page. All it asks you to do is identify three industries you’re targeting for your career. After you install it, you can search for opportunities within those industries and share those opportunities to your Wall or network.

(This can be a great way to pay it forward, especially if you find an opening that someone you know may qualify for.) You can also see your friend network and look at what companies your friends work for.

To get CareerAmp, type it into the search bar at the top of your Facebook screen, click on the results page, and then click on the Go to App button.

CareerAmp is still in Beta. So although seeing your friends based on where they work is interesting, this app may be useful to only some people. CareerAmp is worth checking out, but you can be the judge of whether the information it gives you is useful.

InTheDoor on Facebook

InTheDoor is a job-opportunity search tool that cross-references your Facebook friends and where they work with job listings on Indeed. When you first log in using your Facebook account, you see a list of the top companies represented by your network and how many jobs they’ve posted. So instead of searching for jobs based on location or industry, InTheDoor searches for jobs based on who you know.

InTheDoor is a cool way to use a job board because it gives you results based on who’s in your network. At the very least, if you use this tool, you can visualize just how powerful Facebook is for your career.
