For those who are trying to fight sugar addiction, protein is important for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This recipe is not only low-sugar and healthy, but it’s high in protein.

Prep time: 12 minutes

Cook time: 8–9 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

8 wooden skewers

1 large green bell pepper

12 cherry tomatoes

1 purple onion

1 large portobello mushroom

8 ounces beef filet (or beef tips)

Cajun Basting Sauce (see the following recipe)

Salt and ground black pepper

  1. Soak the wooden skewers in warm water for 20 to 30 minutes. Preheat a charcoal or gas grill.

  2. Wash all the vegetables and cut everything except the cherry tomatoes into squares approximately 1-x-1-inch.

  3. Cut the beef into 1-inch cubes and dip them into the basting sauce.

  4. Alternate skewering pieces of pepper, tomato, beef, onion, and mushroom onto skewers until they’re full.

  5. Heavily brush the kebabs with the Cajun Basting Sauce. Sprinkle the kebabs with salt and pepper.

  6. Brush the grill with olive oil. Grill the kebabs with the grill lid closed, until the edges of the meat and vegetables are crispy (approximately 8 to 9 minutes), using tongs to turn the skewers frequently.

Cajun Basting Sauce

1/4 cup olive oil

Juice of 1 lime

1 teaspoon minced fresh oregano

2 tablespoons Cajun spice

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  1. Whisk together all ingredients in a small bowl.

Serve mini-kebabs as an appetizer or use them as a snack to take to work. On a short skewer, slide one piece of beef in between two vegetables.
