Prunes in Red Wine
In this recipe, you first soak prunes in water to make them soft. Second, you cook the prunes in red wine flavored with sugar, cinnamon, and citrus to season them. You serve the prunes in the red wine mixture, which acts as a syrupy sauce. If you like, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to each bowl.

Yield: 6 servings
1 1/2 pounds dried prunes
1 quart good quality red wine
1 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
A 1 1/4-inch-thick orange slice
A 1 1/4-inch-thick lemon slice
Place the prunes in a medium bowl, cover them with water, cover the bowl, and set aside for 2 hours.
In a medium saucepan, combine the remaining ingredients.
Drain the prunes and add them to the pan.
Simmer for 10 minutes.
Cool to room temperature or chill in the refrigerator for several hours.
Serve prunes and some of the cooking liquid in dessert bowls.
