Pin Your Photos with the Pinterest iPhone App

Not everything you pin on Pinterest has to come from a website. You can pin your own images in Pinterest to share them with your followers. If you're using the Pinterest iPhone app, you can either take a picture and immediately pin it or pin an image from your iPhone's photo gallery.

Take a photo and upload it to Pinterest

To take a photo and upload it to Pinterest, follow these instructions:

  1. Launch the Pinterest app and tap the camera icon.

You see the typical iPhone camera shooting screen.

  2. Take a photo as you normally would by tapping the Camera button.

  3. Move and scale the image as needed and then tap the Use button. Next, you can touch up the photo's color. Click Use again when it's ready.

  4. At the prompt, choose whether to allow Pinterest to share your location.

If you have notifications turned off, you won't be prompted. Keep in mind that if you share your location, people will know exactly where you are.

  5. Complete the pin description and choose a board to pin the image to.

You can decide here as well whether to include the location by turning the Place option on or off. You can also choose to share on Facebook and Twitter by tapping the toggle from Off to On.

  6. Tap the Pin It button in the top-right corner of the screen.

You're bounced to the default Following screen with a progress bar at the top. When the upload is complete, a black box with a "Pinned" message pops up briefly and then disappears.

Pin a photo from your iPhone's Camera Roll

You can also pin any photo in your iPhone's Camera Roll:

  1. Launch the Pinterest app and tap the camera icon at the bottom of the screen.

  2. Tap the Library button in the bottom right. (See the previous image.)

    Your iPhone's Photo app opens.

  3. In the Photos app, tap Camera Roll or the photo album that has the photo you want to pin.

  4. Tap to select the image you want and then move and scale the image.

You can move the image around the square capture area by dragging the picture. You can also scale the image by using two fingers to stretch out or pinch in on the screen.
