Perfecting Your Delivery when Giving a Presentation

Part of the Job Hunting and Career Change All-in-One For Dummies Cheat Sheet (UK Edition)

Delivering a presentation is a part of many job application processes. You can give your presentation a boost by keeping these tips in mind as you go:

  • Establish and maintain eye contact with your audience.

  • Vary the rate, pitch, and volume of your voice, as well as its tone.

  • Avoid fidgeting with your hands. But, at the same time, use your hands to gesture instead of keeping them clasped in front of you.

  • Look at your audience more than your notes. If you don’t feel comfortable looking at your audience, you need to practice your presentation a few more times until you do.

  • Avoid showing your nervousness through tics such as pacing back and forth, jingling change in your pocket, or playing with your hair.

  • Convey enthusiasm when talking – it’s contagious.
