Nanotechnology Degree Program: University of Albany’s CNSE

The College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) at the University of Albany offers three levels of degrees. In addition, the CNSE has strong corporate affiliations with more than 250 companies and it also sports a great research lab. The CNSE includes centers with focuses in areas such as

  • Energy

  • Environment

  • Lithography

  • Nanoelectronics

  • Nanomaterials

  • Semiconductors

CNSE has a strong focus on innovation and commercialization. They work with corporate partners to come up with ideas, research those ideas, and turn the resulting technology into commercial products. They are involved with the funding of product development and with licensing discoveries made by their lab.

CNSE’s Albany NanoTech Complex is a fully-integrated research, development, prototyping, and educational facility that provides strategic support through outreach, technology acceleration, business incubation, pilot prototyping, and test-based integration support for onsite corporate partners including IBM, Intel, GlobalFoundries, SEMATECH, Samsung, TSMC, Toshiba, Applied Materials, Tokyo Electron, ASML and Novellus Systems, as well as other “next generation” nanotechnology research activities.

For those interested in this so-called real-world approach to scientific discovery, this school has a great deal to offer. They have both a Bachelor’s program and a graduate (Master’s and PhD) program.
