How to Use Your Nexus 7 Tablet as a Clock
Your Nexus 7 tablet keeps constant, accurate track of the time, which is displayed at the top of the Home screen as well as on the lock screen. That’s handy, but it just isn’t enough, so the tablet ships with the Clock app.
The Clock app is more than just a pretty face. It does just about anything time related you can think of. The Clock app serves as alarm clock, timer, and stopwatch as well as a plain old clock.
Choose a mode for the Clock app from the set of icons atop the screen.
To set an alarm, touch the Alarms icon in the Clock app. You see a list of existing alarms on the Alarms screen. If an existing alarm works for you, touch the Off button on the right side of the screen. That button changes to On, and the alarm is set.
When an alarm is set, the Alarm status icon appears, as shown in the margin. Use the Quick Actions shade to quickly access the Alarms screen.
If you need to create a new alarm, follow these steps:
Touch the Alarm icon on the Clock app’s screen.
Touch the Add icon.
The Set Alarm keypad appears.
Enter a time for the alarm, including AM or PM.
Touch the OK button.
The alarm appears in the list on the Alarms screen, expanded for editing. The On button is active, meaning that the alarm is set.
Touch the Label button to type a name for the alarm.
The name appears on the screen when the alarm triggers.
Place a blue check mark by the Repeat option to set the alarm’s frequency.
Touch those days of the week on which you want the alarm to sound.
To have the alarm sound only once (when set), don’t put a blue check mark by the Repeat option.
Choose Ringtone item to specify which sound plays for the alarm.
Touch the up-pointing chevron to save your changes and close the Alarm’s information screen.
The alarm is set and ready to trigger according to the options you’ve chosen.
When the alarm is trigged, the Nexus 7 plays the ringtone specified in Step 6. You need to swipe the alarm icon on the screen to dismiss the alarm: Swipe down to snooze or swipe up to unlock the tablet.
Alarms must be set or else they don’t trigger.
The Snooze duration is set by touching the Menu icon button at the top of the Alarms screen. Choose Settings and then Snooze Length. It’s normally ten minutes.
If you plan on using the Nexus 7 as a bedside clock, touch the Menu icon and choose the Night Mode command.
To modify an alarm, choose it from the Alarms screen. Touch the time to edit the time; touch the bar beneath the time to edit details.
Turning off an alarm doesn’t delete the alarm.
To delete an alarm, long-press it and touch the Trash icon at the top of the screen. Touch the OK button to confirm.
The alarm doesn’t work when you turn off the Nexus 7. The alarm does, however, go off when the tablet is locked.
