How to Use QR Codes to Help You Go Paperless

QR Code technology reduces our paper use. You can have a positive effect on our environment by incorporating QR Codes into your working life.

Save paper and space by printing your QR Codes on mailing labels instead of wasting a whole sheet of paper or by trying one of these ideas:

  • Post your itinerary. If you’re taking a trip, post a QR Code on your kitchen bulletin board that links to a document with the itinerary on it. If the itinerary changes, just update the document, and the QR Codes will always link to the most recently updated version.

  • Share recipes and notes. If you’re a baker, you can link a QR Code to your notes on a specific recipe, or a picture of the finished product. This is especially useful when people ask you for a recipe. You can give them the recipe, and your tips for making it, on a QR Code.

  • Link to your online newsletter. Forget printed newspapers and newsletters — put QR Codes in prominent places where readers can scan them for their weekly mobile edition.

  • Distribute supplementary materials. If you’re a teacher, save some paper and use a QR Code to share class notes, handouts, or the entire lecture on a podcast.

  • Save on mailing costs. Why are you still mailing out a 300-page catalog when you can send a postcard with a QR Code on it that links to a full-color online catalog?

  • Streamline your work flow. With QR Codes, manufacturers can implement a point-and-browse experience on the shop floor. If work orders listing collections of parts included a QR Code, a technician with a mobile device can scan the work order and immediately pull up the latest approved assembly procedure.

  • Sell your house. Stop printing out reams of paper for that open house your agent is hosting this weekend -and give her a QR Code that potential home buyers can scan. Find out who’s really interested, and who isn’t.
