How to Use Facebook’s Coworker Search

Facebook’s Coworker Search uses the work history information that people enter into their profiles to help you find coworkers to join your friends list. Facebook lets you enter current and past work information in your profile. Coworker Search lets you search for people who work at the same places you do (or did). Depending on the size of the place where you worked, this sort of search might yield entirely too many people or not enough (if not all of your coworkers have joined Facebook). To account for the “too many” problem, search for specific names at specific companies, if you wish. Name search can be as general or as specific as you need. (Hmm. Remember John, who sat a few cubicles over?) Like with many types of searches, though, the more specific you are, the more likely you are to find what you’re looking for.

A quick and easy way to find someone on Facebook is with The Quick-Search box in the upper-right corner of the Facebook page. You enter a name of someone you want to find on Facebook, press Enter, and very quickly get a list of search results.

To use Coworker Search, follow these steps:

1

Click on Friends and then select Find Friends from the drop-down menu.

Under Search for People on the bottom left side of the page, you will see three search options; select the Find current or past coworkers link.

You land on the Search by Company page, as shown here.

2

Start typing the name of the company you want to search.

The Company field tries to auto-complete what you’re typing.

3

(Optional) If you want, enter a specific person you’re looking for.

The more specific you are, the better your chances of finding the coworker you’re seeking.

4

Click Search Coworkers.

Voilà! A list appears of people who listed that company in their profiles.
