How to Use Facebook’s AIM Friend Finder

Facebook’s AIM Friend Finder works only if you use AIM as an instant messenger (IM) client for chatting with your friends. If you send invitations to friends to join Facebook, via the AIM Friend Finder they are delivered via IM rather than with an email.

To use Facebook’s AIM Friend Finder, follow these steps:

Go to the Find Friends page.

Choose Find Friends in the Friends drop-down menu in the big blue bar on top. At the bottom of the page you will see Find People You IM.

Click Import AIM Buddy List.

The page expands as shown here.

Enter your AIM screen name and AIM password.

Then click Find Friends to see a list of your AIM contacts.

Choose your friends.

You can click the box beside someone’s name. You can skip the name. You can check the Select All Friends option at the top of the screen, or you can Select All Friends and then deselect the friends you don’t want. When you’re ready, click Add to Friends. Facebook will automatically send a friend request to each of the friends you selected. A new list of friends in your contact list that are not on Facebook will appear. It should look something like this:

(Optional) Invite people to join Facebook and become your friend.

Similar to adding friends, you can click Invite to Join or Skip. You can select all or none of the people listed. Then reselect the ones you want to add by using the check boxes to the left of their e-mails and clicking Invite to Join.
