How to Turn Off PowerPoint 2007 Smart Tags

PowerPoint displays a Smart Tag if you enter text PowerPoint believes is a date, an address, a company ticker name, a place, a telephone number, or a person to whom you recently sent e-mail. If PowerPoint recognizes one of these entities, it places a purple dotted line underneath the data. Move the pointer over the purple dotted line and you see the Smart Tag icon. Click this icon and you see a shortcut menu with tasks.

Not everyone likes Smart Tags. Often what PowerPoint thinks is a date, address, place, or ticker name isn’t that at all. Follow these steps to turn off Smart Tags:

1

Click the Office button.

Office options appear.

2

Choose PowerPoint Options.

The PowerRoint options drop-down list expands.

3

On the Proofing tab of the PowerPoint Options dialog box, click the AutoCorrect Options button.

The AutoCorrect dialog box opens.

4

Select the Smart Tags tab.

See options for turning off Smart Tags.

5

Unselect the Label Text with Smart Tags check box

Click OK to finish.
