Watching movies and TV shows on your iPhone is fun, but there's nothing like the satisfaction of making your own video and then watching and sharing it with your people you know.

iPhone 4s and later shoots video in high definition, up to 1920X1080 pixels and 30 frames-per-second. This means you can make smooth, clear full-motion videos. Each video can be up to an hour long, although one minute of video takes about 80 MB of memory or close to 5 GB for an hour of video.

To capture video:

  1. Tap Camera on the Home Screen or, if your iPhone is locked, click the Home button and then drag the Camera button up.

  2. Swipe the screen to the right to highlight Video.

On an iPhone 5S, you can swipe another notch to the left of Video to Slo-Mo. This feature actually captures video at a higher frames-per-second speed, which then allows you to play the video at a slower speed. While you're recording, the screen looks the same, and then when you edit the video, you choose the part or parts to play back in slow motion. Choose Slo-Mo before recording.

  3. Point your iPhone at the action you want to capture.

  4. Tap the Flash button to the On or Auto position if you are in a low-light setting.

You have to turn the flash on before you begin recording your video.

  5. Tap the Record button, which is the red dot in place of the shutter button, or press one of the Volume buttons.

The Record button becomes a red square in a white circle, whereas the video is recording and a timer appears at the top of the screen (the side if you turn your phone to landscape view.

  6. (Optional.) Tap the shutter button next to the Record button to take a still photo while you're shooting video.

  7. Tap the Record button or press one of the Volume buttons to stop recording.

You can also press the center button on iPhone's earphones to start or stop recording.

  8. A thumbnail of your video's keyframe appears next to the Record button.

Tap the Switch button if you want to capture video with the FaceTime camera, although there is no flash and the quality is lower.
