How to Start a Conversation with Lync Online

The Lync Online contact card is a great way to initiate a conversation with a co-worker or your team members. In addition to your personal note, presence, and location, it also displays your organization information like your title and phone numbers.

To view the contact card, hover over a person’s picture and click the chevron to see more options. After it is expanded, you can initiate an e-mail, an IM, a phone call, or start a video call.

If your contact is not listed, type your contact’s name in the search box and select the appropriate contact from the search results.

A quick way to start a conversation if you don’t need all the information from the contact card is to simply double-click your contact’s listing. Doing this opens a new window with — by default — your mouse’s cursor inside the IM box ready for you to type in your message.

If you don’t have access to Lync 2010, double-click your colleague’s name under the Contact List in Outlook Web App to start a conversation. After you enter text in the message box and press Enter, your colleague will be notified that you are trying to start a conversation.
