How to Signing Up for Spotify
Spotify requires all new users who joined after September 22, 2011, to sign up by using their Facebook account details before they can use Spotify for the first time. (If you already have an existing Spotify username and password, perhaps from an old account you haven’t used in a while, you can still use that information to log in, rather than a Facebook account, after you download the software.)
It’s now possible to sign up for Spotify from within Facebook, but following are manual sign-up instructions:
Go to www.facebook.com and enter your details in the fields provided.
Facebook needs your name, e-mail address (you have to enter this address twice to confirm it), and a password that you want to use for your account.
Select your date of birth from the drop-down lists.
Click the Sign Up button.
Verify that you’re a human and not a spam robot by entering the security words on the next page that appears, then click Sign Up again.
Check your e-mail inbox, where you should find a message from Facebook; click the activation link to go to your Facebook page and confirm your account details.
For now, you can skip any queries Facebook asks you about adding friends and any information about yourself.
To register for Spotify, make sure you’re still logged into Facebook, and then follow these steps:
Go to www.spotify.com and click the Sign Up button at the top-right.
If this link doesn’t appear, go directly to www.spotify.com/int/get-spotify/go/open. For first-time users, a page appears saying that no Spotify account is associated with your Facebook details.
Click the Sign Up Here link.
Review your Facebook account details that appear.
Presuming you’re already logged into Facebook, then a sign-up page appears with your existing personal information already filled in. If you aren’t logged into Facebook, a pop-up window appears informing you that your Facebook details are required.
If the pop-up window appears, click Login to Facebook, enter your Facebook details in the fields provided, and then click Log In to be taken to the sign-up page.
Confirm your personal details and, at the bottom of the page, select the I Agree with the Spotify End User Agreement check box.
You can click the link to the agreement to open a new page, where you can read it.
A screen appears that lets you choose your desired subscription type.
Select the Free Spotify option on the left.
Don’t worry about the Select a Payment Method section; you can always upgrade later to a payed subscription.
Click Register, and then click Continue to finish registering.
The Account Successfully Created page appears. You’re now ready to download Spotify. The installation file should begin downloading automatically.
View your account information by clicking your name on the top-right of the Spotify website and then selecting Edit Profile from the drop-down list that appears. An Account Overview page appears, showing your real name and an assigned username (in the past, you could choose your own username; now, you get a boring numerical one, such as 11862662).
If you already have a Spotify account from long ago, you can log in by using that account. Go to Spotify, click Log In, and then log in by entering your username and password.
