How to Set Up Your WordPress.com Profile

Your WordPress.com profile area lets you configure your personal settings to individualize your WordPress.com blog. This blog is about you, so let your profile tell the readers a little about yourself!

1

Log in to your WordPress.com blog.

The main WordPress.com web page refreshes with the WordPress.com administration menu across the top. Click the Dashboard under your blog link to enter the WordPress.com Dashboard.

2

Click the Users menu in the navigation menu, and then click the My Profile link.

The My Public Profile page opens.

3

Fill in the Basic Details for your Profile

Basic Details asks for your First and Last name, the name you would like displayed publicly on blogs and throughout the WordPress.com network, your location and a small paragraph about yourself.

4

Include Your Contact Information

WordPress.com gives you several fields to fill out to include different ways to contact you. These fields include:

Your public e-mail

AIM - AOL Instant Messenger ID

GTalk - Google Talk ID

ICQ ID

Live Messenger ID

Jabber ID

Yahoo! ID

Home Phone

Work Phone

Mobile Phone

5

Upload Photos to Share on your Profile

You can upload as many photos as you would like to share on your publicly displayed profile on WordPress.com

6

Add Your Selected Links

WordPress.com allows you to add as many links to your profile as you would like. These links could include the web address to other websites you own, or any other social media profiles that you would like to share on your profile.

7

Verify yourself with External Services

WordPress.com gives you the opportunity to confirm you are exactly who you say you are through authentication through other external web services like:

Blogger

Digg

Facebook

Flickr

Foursquare

FriendFeed

LinkedIn

MySpace

Posterous

TripIt

Tumblr

Twitter

Vimeo

WordPress

Yahoo!

YouTube

When you authenticate with any of the above mentioned services, they also get listed on your WordPress.com profile page so others can easily find you on other social networks, as well.

8

In the Current Gravatar section, click the Change Your Gravatar link.

The Gravatar.com window appears.

9

Click the Upload a New Image from Your Computer link.

The Select File from Your Computer window opens.

10

Click the Browse button and select an image from your computer, then click the Next button.

The crop image page appears.

11

Use the crop tool to highlight the area of the picture that you want to remain after cropping.

The box with a dotted line (the crop tool) outlines the image you choose to use. You can move that dotted box around to choose the area of the image you want to use as your avatar.

12

Click the Crop and Finish button.

The Choose a Rating page opens.

13

Choose a rating for your new Gravatar.

The rating system works very much like the movie rating system we’re all familiar with: G, PG, R, and X.

14

Select an e-mail address.

If you use your assigned e-mail address when you comment on a blog, your Gravatar images appear along with your comment.

15

Click the X in the upper right corner of the window.

The Profile page reappears, displaying your newly uploaded Gravatar
