How to Set the Time and Date on Your iPod Nano

If you need to change the time zone, time, or date, you can do that yourself at any time (sorry for the pun). You can even set how the time appears in the status bar at the top of the screen.

To set the date and time on an iPod nano, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Home button to see the first Home screen, and then swipe to the left to see the second Home screen.

  2. Tap Settings→General→Date & Time.

The Date & Time menu appears, with selections for setting the date, time, time zone, 24-hour clock, and the Time On Wake and Clock Face options.

Skip to Step 5 if the correct time zone is set.

  3. Choose Time Zone.

After choosing Time Zone, a list of countries appears.

  4. Tap a country and then a city (or state).

Tap a country in the country list, and then tap a city (or state) for its time zone. After selecting the time zone, the Date & Time menu appears again.

  5. Choose Date from the Date & Time menu.

The date appears as a slot machine wheel with the month, the day, and the year cylinders you can scroll with your finger.

  6. Change the field setting by sliding your finger up or down to scroll each cylinder of the slot machine wheel.

  7. Tap the Done button.

The Date & Time menu appears.

  8. Choose Time from the Date & Time menu.

The time appears as a slot machine wheel with the hour, the minute, and the AM/PM cylinders you can scroll with your finger.

  9. Change the field setting by scrolling the cylinders of the slot machine wheel.

  10. Tap the Done button.

The Date & Time menu appears.

To show military time (so that 11:00 p.m. is displayed as 23:00), tap the Off button next to the 24-Hour Clock option in the Date & Time menu to turn it on; tap On to turn it off.

You can display the iPod nano’s clock face every time you wake up the iPod nano — tap Off next to the Time On Wake option in the Date & Time menu to turn on the clock display. When you wake your iPod nano, the clock appears; swipe right to go back through the Now Playing screen to the Home screens.

You can also switch the clock’s face — tap Clock Face in the Date & Time menu, and then tap a different clock face.
