How to Set the Owner Info on Your Nexus 7 Tablet

You can customize the lock screen by adding some custom text that may help identify your Nexus 7 tablet, or simply a pithy saying to entertain yourself. The feature is called Owner Info, so the real reason is to type your name and contact info in case your tablet gets lost or stolen.

To set the Owner Info for your Nexus 7, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Settings app.

  2. Choose Security.

  3. Choose Owner Info.

  4. Ensure that there’s a check mark in the box by the option Show Owner Info on Lock Screen.

  5. Type text into the box.

You can type more than one line of text, though the information is displayed on the lock screen as a single line, scrolling from right to left.

  6. Touch the Settings icon in the upper-left corner of the screen when you’re done typing.

Whatever text you type into the box appears on the lock screen. Therefore, you should type something like your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address, for example. This way, if you lose your Nexus 7 and an honest person finds it, that person can get it back to you.

The Owner Info shows up when the screen is locked. However, if None is chosen as the screen lock, the information doesn’t appear.
