How to Sell Items with a PayPal Account
After a PayPal account is set up, you can accept payments online. Adding PayPal Add to Cart buttons to any web page you create in Dreamweaver is a breeze, thanks to a free plugin from WebAssist.
To add PayPal Add to Cart buttons to a web page in Dreamweaver, do the following:
Navigate to Dreamweaver's free eCommerce Toolkit.
Download and install the plug-in. The plug-in, PayPal454.mxp, is a Dreamweaver extension. By default, it’s downloaded to your desktop (Windows) or the Downloads folder (Macintosh).
Launch Dreamweaver and then choose Commands→Manage Extensions.
The Adobe Extension Manager CS6 dialog box appears. This dialog box is used to manage all extensions for all Adobe CS6 applications you have installed on your computer.
Click Install, navigate to and select the PayPal454.mxp file, and then click Open.
You have to accept a disclaimer that the extension is not an Adobe product and that Adobe does not warrant or support the extension. Don’t be put off by this: The PayPal extension is a proven performer. Adobe is just dotting every i and crossing every t. Their lawyers wouldn’t have it any other way. After you accept the disclaimer, the extension is installed.
Close the Adobe Extension Manager CS6, exit, and then restart Dreamweaver.
The extension won’t work until you do.
Create the page from which the customer will check out.
Here is a basic HTML page with the image that is being sold. Now it’s time to insert the Add to Cart buttons. You have a lot of flexibility here. Many web designers create a page where several products are displayed along with a description, and an Add to Cart button that appears below each product’s description.
Choose Insert→PayPal→Add to Cart Button.
The first page of the Insert PayPal Add to Cart Button Wizard appears.
The first time you use the PayPal extension, you have to activate it. After you download the extension, you get an e-mail receipt that has the serial number.
Enter the e-mail address of the PayPal account to which the sale will be credited and click Next.
The second page of the Insert PayPal Add to Cart Button Wizard appears.
Choose the desired button style from the dialog box shown.
You can choose one of the preset styles, or choose a custom button. If you choose the latter option, the Button Image URL field becomes active. In this field, enter the URL where the button image is stored.
The third window of the Insert PayPal Add to Cart Button Wizard appears.
Enter the product information.
The product information you enter indicates which product to ship to the customer. You need to use a unique product name for each item. Select Yes or No for the options to request a shipping address from the customer and to include a comments field at checkout time. After the customer pays for the purchase, this information is sent to the e-mail address entered earlier.
The fourth page of the Insert PayPal Add to Cart Button Wizard appears.
If desired, enter the URL to the success page, which usually thanks the visitor for his purchase.
This step is optional. Many designers create a Thank You page for a successful purchase.
And that’s all you need to do to add the button to one page. Of course, now you have to perform Steps 6–15 to add the button to other pages of your online store.
