How to See Who's Following You on Twitter

6 of 8 in Series: The Essentials of Getting Connected and Communicating on Twitter

You may want to see who's following you — your followers — on Twitter. There are various ways to work with followers: you can pull up a list of your followers on any Twitter page, as well as manage your new followers.

  • From your Profile page, click the Followers link in the upper-right. You see a list of people who are following you. Twitter sorts the list with the people who've started following you the most recently at the top. Simply scroll through your followers page by page.

  • If you have a lot of followers, use a third-party tool, such as TwitterKarma or FriendorFollow, that can show you both who you're following and who's following you, which is considerably easier than scrolling through your followers page by page.

  • To receive an e-mail alert when you have a new follower, turn on e-mail notifications in the Settings area. Click your Twitter name in the upper-right corner and select Settings. Click the Notifications tab, check the Email Me When I'm Followed by Someone New check box, and click Save. Then, you can just click a link in the e-mail to that user's profile and see right away whether you want to follow them back.

If you're unsure whether someone is following you, try to send the person a direct message. If she is following you, you're able to send that direct message. If that user isn't following you, you get a User Does Not Follow You error message.
