How to See Whom You're Following on Twitter

7 of 8 in Series: The Essentials of Getting Connected and Communicating on Twitter

Passionate and genuine Twitter users can easily find people to follow and get them to follow them back. After you start using Twitter to its full potential, you may want to see a list of the people you follow. To see a list of your followers:

  1. Log in to Twitter.

both your Home and your Profile have links for Following and Followers.

  2. Click Following.

A list of people you're following appears. Currently, Twitter sorts your Following list chronologically by when you started following them, with the most recent at the top.

  3. Scroll through the list manually, page by page.

You can't sort or search yet through the names on Twitter, so if you're following many people (say, more than 100, you'll probably want to use a third-party application built on Twitter's API instead.

If you have a particular user in mind and you're not sure if you're following him, go that person's Twitter page. If you're following him, under his avatar, you'll see "Following." If you're not following him, you'll see a Follow button, which you can click to follow him.

Be cautious when following new people on Twitter. Building relationships on Twitter takes time and genuine interaction, so many of the initial people you follow (who don't personally know you) may not follow you back immediately. An account that's following a large number of people with only 1 or 2 people following it back is a warning sign that it may be a spam account — so don't follow too many too quickly or people might think you're a spammer, too.
