How to Script Dialogue for a Marketing Video

Not every marketing video has dialogue, but if your actors talk to each other, you have to write out what they're going to say and incorporate it into the action. The characters’ names are set up in the center of the page with their lines below their name. You can use parentheses to give specific direction to them such as emotion or action like smiling or sticking out their tongue.

Much of your compelling messaging may come from the dialogue so it’s important to give lots of attention to the wording, making sure you’re getting your message across clearly.

Too much back-and-forth dialogue can seem odd and unnatural, not to mention it can cause camera difficulties. Unless your script calls for a stylized approach that requires fast back-and-forth dialogue, it’s best to keep the dialogue as natural as possible.

Test your dialogue as you write it. You can say it aloud with a friend, or play all the parts yourself. To really hear it, record it and play it back to see how it sounds. Often what seems good on paper can be very unnatural when spoken in real life. Hearing it aloud also helps fix word combinations that are difficult to say.
