How to Register on Etsy
Anyone can browse Etsy to see what goodies are for sale. But if you're in the market to buy, or if you eventually want to open your own shop, you need to create an Etsy account. Becoming a registered user is easy and free!
In addition to being able to purchase items on the site, registered users can keep track of their best-loved items or shops by "hearting" them, communicate with other Etsy members, and participate in the site's community features, such as the forums and Virtual Labs.
Assuming that you have a computer and an Internet connection, becoming a registered Etsy user is super easy. Here's what you do:
Go to the Etsy website.
Etsy's main page appears.
Click the Register link in the header bar.
The Register page appears.
Type your first name in the First Name field and your last name in the Last Name field.
Click the Male, Female, or Rather Not Say option button to specify your gender (or not).
Type your e-mail address in the Your Email field.
In the Password field, type the password you want to use to access your Etsy account.
Create a password that's at least six characters — one that you can remember easily but that won't be too obvious to anyone else.
Retype the password in the Confirm Password field.
In the User Name field, type the user name you want to use on Etsy.
This name must contain between 4 and 20 letters or numbers (no spaces). Etsy notifies you if someone else has selected your user name; if so, try another one until you find one that's unique.
Take care in choosing your user name, because it's crazy important! If you decide to become an Etsy seller, your user name then becomes your shop name. What's more, you can't change your user name after you set it initially.
To read the terms of use, click the Terms of Use link.
You can also read Etsy's privacy policy by clicking on the Privacy Policy link.
Optionally, select the check box titled Sign Up for the Etsy Finds Newsletter.
If you do, Etsy will send you a daily Etsy Finds newsletter full of fantastic finds on the site. This newsletter is one of several Etsy newsletters available to you.
Click the Register button.
Etsy creates your account and sends a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address you supplied in Step 5.
If you don't receive the confirmation e-mail right away, check your junk mail folder or your spam filter to make sure it wasn't intercepted.
Open the e-mail from Etsy and click the link that it contains to confirm your account.
Etsy sends you a second e-mail to officially welcome you to the site.
If you can't click the link in your confirmation e-mail, you can copy it and paste it in your web browser's address bar to confirm your account. If you have trouble registering, contact Etsy's Support Team by e-mail at support@etsy.com.
