How to Refine Your eBay Search Results

When you perform a search on eBay, a search results page appears; the top links on the left side of the page are categories that match your search keywords. Below the Matching Categories area are check boxes that allow you to further refine your search. Here are some of the handy options:

  • Buying Options: Accomplishes the same thing as clicking the Buy It Now or Auction tab at the top of the results page.

  • Gift items: Click here to see items with little blue box icons, which indicate that the seller thinks this a good gift item and has paid eBay extra to let you know that.

  • Completed Listings: The perfect option for researching how much an item will sell for or how much you should expect to pay.

  • Free Shipping: You can isolate your search to only those sellers who offer free shipping. (But remember: They may have hiked their pricing to include shipping.)

  • Listings: Use the drop-down list to select the number of hours or days you want reflected in your search:

    • Started Within: Items that are newly listed on the site (catch the Buy It Now deals before someone else does).

    • Ending in More Than: If you want to participate in an auction that closes in the future, make a selection here.

    • Ending Within: Select the number of hours within which you’d like to see an item’s auction ending.

  • Items priced: Narrow your search within a specific price range.

  • Items within miles of a certain zip code: When you're signed in, your zip code is filled in by default, but you can type in any zip code. You also select the mileage from a drop-down list.

In the quest for even more minutiae, a link at the bottom of this box allows you to customize the search queries even further. You can definitely take a good thing too far, and this is getting pretty close.
