How to Publish a WordPress.com Blog Post

Publishing a blog post to your WordPress.com account couldn't be easier. After you figure out what you want to say in your post, the rest is a breeze:

1

Log in to your WordPress.com account.

The main WordPress.com web page refreshes with the WordPress.com administration menu across the top. Click the Dashboard under your blog link to enter the WordPress.com Dashboard.

2

In the Dashboard, click the Add New link on the Posts menu.

The Add New Post page appears, where you write, organize, and publish your first post.

3

Enter a name for your post in the Title text box.

You can make the name snappy and fun if you want, but don’t be cryptic. Use titles that give your readers a basic idea of what they're about to read in the posts.

4

Write the content of your post in the Post text box.

The area in which you write your post is in Visual Editing mode, as indicated by the Visual tab that appears above the text. Visual Editing mode is how WordPress provides WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) options for text formatting.

5

The Publish Module on the Add New Post page gives you three publishing options to select for your new post.

You can select Status, Visibility, and Publish Immediately.

6

If you click the Edit link next to the Status option, select an option from the new list that appears.

Your options are Pending Review (which lets the administrator of the blog know that contributors have entered posts that are waiting for administrator review and approval) and Draft (which saves the post but doesn't publish it to your blog).

7

If you click the Edit link next to Visibility, select an option from the list that appears.

Selecting Public publishes your post to your blog for the entire world to see. The Password Protected option allows you to password protect a post, so a reader has to know the password to access the post. When you select this option, a text box appears where you type the password for this post.

You also have the option here to make the post Private so that no one but you can see the post once it’s been Published.

The final option available here is to make the post “Sticky” — this option ensures that the post will stay at the top of your site, no matter what the publish date and time.

8

If you click the Edit link next to Publish Immediately, a new list appears where you can set the date (or timestamp) of the post and publish the post right away.

The date settings here allow you to set a date in the future for the post to publish, or you can back-date a post to publish on a date in the past.

9

Click OK when you finish to save your settings.

When you have chosen a publishing status, click the Publish button. WordPress saves your publishing-status option.
