How to Post a Facebook Update from Your iPhone

Did you know you can update your Facebook status from anywhere on your iPhone? Facebook Mobile works from differently device to device depending on factors like whether there’s a touch screen or not. Right now, Facebook has apps available for the following phone types: iPhone, Palm, Sony Ericsson, INQ, Blackberry, Nokia, Android, Windows Phone, and Sidekick.

To update your status from the iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Start the Facebook app or use your mobile browser to go to Facebook.

    This brings you to your News Feed. There are three buttons at the very top of News Feed: Status, Photo, and Check In.

  2. Click Status.

    This expands a large text box.

  3. Type in your status.

  4. (Optional) Click the gear icon to choose who can see this status update.

    You can choose from the usual options (Everyone, Friends of Friends, Only Friends) as well as choosing from any lists you’ve created.

  5. Click Post in the upper-right corner.

    The post is added to your Wall and your friends’ News Feeds.

Given how great the iPhone’s camera is, chances are you may want to add a photo to Facebook. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Start the Facebook app or use your mobile browser to go to Facebook.

    This brings you to your News Feed. There are three buttons at the very top of News Feed: Photo, Status, and Check In.

  2. Click Photo.

    This brings up a menu with two options: Take Photo or Video, or Choose from Library. If you choose to take a photo, your phone’s familiar camera interface opens up. Point and Shoot and click Use if you are satisfied with it.

    If you choose from your library, the phone brings up icons of all the photos saved on your phone.

  3. Tap on any faces in the photo to tag them.

    This brings up a black text box at the top of the screen. Begin typing in a friend’s name until you see the name appear in the menu and then tap to select that person.

  4. Tap Next.

  5. Write a caption to go along with the photo.

    Type your caption into the Say Something About This Text Box that appears.

  6. Tap Post.

    The photo is then added to your Wall, and your friends will be able to see it in their News Feeds.

Remember, part of the greatness of Facebook on your mobile phone is that you can share the things that are happening to you as they happen. Don’t be shy about documenting the funny/cool/interesting foibles of your daily life.
