How to Organize Multimedia in Joomla’s Media Manager

On the left-hand side of the Joomla’s Media Manager page, you find a tree of folders that ship with the Joomla default installation: photos, banners, and sampledata. Joomla uses these basic folders to organize the few photos that come with the CMS default installation.

You can use these folders to organize any of the media files you upload to your Joomla site as well. However, as your site grows in size and complexity, it may become more difficult to organize or use the content you’ve uploaded to the site. You may need to add new folders to the tree to better organize your media files.

For example, maybe you are planning to add an image to your Privacy Policy article, and want the image to have its own folder. To create a new folder in Media Manager, follow these steps:

  1. From the Administration Control Panel, click the Media Manager icon, or choose Content→Media Manager in any back-end page to open Media Manager.

    Media Manager opens.

  2. Type a name for your folder in the field located next to the Create Folder button, found in the bottom-right corner of the Media Manager page.

For this exercise, name the folder Privacy.

  3. Click the Create Folder button.

    The new folder appears.
