How to Navigate WordPress.com

After you create a new WordPress.com account and log in, the main WordPress.com Web site reappears, only now you can navigate it by using the WordPress.com menu bar, shown in this figure. The WordPress.com menu bar contains some shortcut links to some important areas of your Dashboard.

The WordPress.com menu bar consists of several links that you can use to access your account, your Administration panel, and various options:

  • My Account: Hover your mouse pointer over this link, and you see a drop-down list.

    Choose from these options:

    • New QuickPress Post: Takes you to a simplified Post form where you can write and publish posts quickly.

    • Edit My Profile: Takes you to the Your Profile section in your Administration panel, where you can edit your own user profile.

    • Read Freshly Pressed: Takes you to a page on WordPress.com (http://wordpress.com/#fresh) where you can read and navigate through blog posts that have been recently published in the WordPress.com network.

    • Read Posts I Like: Takes you to a page on WordPress.com (http://wordpress.com/#likes) where you can view posts in the WordPress.com network that you’ve marked as “Liked”.

    • Track My Comments: Takes you to the My Comments page within your WordPress Dashboard where you can browse through comments you have made on various blogs within the WordPress.com network.

    • Global Dashboard: Takes you to the Dashboard panel for your WordPress.com account.

    • Get Support: Takes you to WordPress.com Support, where you can get assistance from the folks who run WordPress.com.

    • Logout: Lets you log out.

  • My Blogs: Click this link to go to your main blog.

  • Blog Info: Hover your mouse pointer over this link to see a drop-down list.

    Choose from these options:

    • Random Post: Loads, in the same window, a random post from the blog you're visiting.

    • Report as Spam: Reports the blog to WordPress.com administration as a spam blog.

    • Report as Mature: Reports the blog to WordPress.com administration as a blog containing mature content.
