How to Move the Auto Exposure Lock on Your Canon Rebel SL1/100D

If you frequently lock auto exposure or flash exposure when you're shooting photos, you may find it beneficial to swap the location of this button with the AF Point Selection/Magnify button on your Canon Rebel SL1/100D. This puts the AE Lock/FE Lock/Reduce button at the top of the right side of the camera where you can easily hit it with your thumb. To get AE Lock/FE Lock/Reduce button and the AF Point Selection/Magnify button to trade places, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Menu button.

    The previously used menu displays.

  2. Use the cross keys to navigate to the Camera Settings 3 tab.

  3. Use the cross keys to navigate to the Switch AE Lock/AF Point Selection button (see the left image in the figure) and press Set.

The menu for this option is displayed (see the right image in the following figure). The Disable option illustrates the default position of these buttons.

  4. Use the right cross key to highlight Enable.

The menu in the figure illustrates how the buttons will be repositioned.

  5. Press the Set button.

The buttons change places, but the button icons remain the same.
