How to Move Home Screen Panels on an Android Phone

Some Android phones allow you to rearrange the Home screen panels. You might even be allowed to add or remove panels. Such a feature is offered by the phone’s manufacturer; it isn’t a native part of the Android operating system.

To see whether your phone lets you rearrange the Home screen panels, press the Home button twice to see the Home screen overview. Try dragging around a Home screen panel thumbnail. If it moves, you can rearrange the panels. If you can’t — oh, well.

Press either the Back or Home soft button when you’re done rearranging.

  • Any Home screen can be moved to any other position. The Home screen in the center is the main Home screen.

  • The main Home screen is the one you return to when you press the Home soft button.

  • The methods for adding new Home screen vary, though a popular way to do so is simply to drag a Home screen icon left or right from the leftmost or rightmost Home screen panel, respectively. On some phones, this action automatically spawns a new Home screen panel. Again, this technique isn’t part of the Android operating system, so it’s not available to all phones.
