How to Manage Comments on Your Squarespace Site

If you have a blog on your site, Squarespace can allow site visitors to comment on your blog posts. Allowing people to comment on your site is a great way to connect with others. It also allows them to share their ideas and thoughts with you.

You manage comments by choosing Site Manager→Activity→Comments or by using the Squarespace mobile app.

The Comments screen in Activity has three management areas:

  • Unmoderated: Comments needing approval to be shown on your site

  • Approved: Comments that are displayed on your site

  • Flagged: Comments flagged for inappropriateness by other commenters

Commenting is enabled by default. If you want to disable it sitewide, go to Site Manager→Settings→General. You can also disable commenting on a per-post basis.

You can reply directly to individual comments in any of the areas on the Comments screen:

  2. In the comment box, type your reply.

Your reply appears below the original comment.

How to delete comments on Squarespace

You can delete comments from your site in two ways. You can delete individual comments one by one, or you can select multiple comments and delete them all at once. You can also delete comments and report them as spam to Squarespace to help block these types of comments in the future.

Select multiple comments by simply clicking each one. (You don’t need to hold down any special keys.) You can select any number of comments, whether they are adjacent or not.

The comments become highlighted and a toolbar appears at the bottom of the screen with three buttons:

    • Select All: Selects all comments on the screen.

    • Deselect: Deselects all comments you selected, hiding the toolbar in the process.

To approve a single comment, hover your mouse cursor over the comment and click the check mark icon that appears. The comment is instantly approved and posted to your site.

To approve multiple comments from your site at once, do the following:

How to handle flagged comments

Site visitors can flag comments that they find offensive or inappropriate. It’s your decision as the site owner to decide whether the comment should be removed from the site.

If you don’t approve of a comment someone flags, you can

  • Delete the comment.

  • Reply to the comment.

  • Clear comments: Click the Clear Flags button at the top of the Flagged comments screen to remove flags from all comments on the screen.

You may want to provide commenting guidelines that explain what is and is not allowed on your site and the consequences of breaking these guidelines.
