How to Limit Who Can See Your Facebook Posts

Privacy on your posts and life events is something you usually adjust as you're creating them. Next to the Post button, Facebook displays the audience for that post. Click the audience to open a drop-down menu for changing who can see it. Remember, there are usually five options for privacy: Public, Friends, Friends Except Acquaintances, Only Me, or Custom.

You can edit the privacy on a post after the fact as well. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. When you’re looking at the post you want to edit, click the privacy icon.

The privacy icon mirrors the current privacy setting for that post. For example, a public post displays a globe icon next to the information about when it was posted. When you click it, the Privacy menu appears.

  2. Select your desired privacy setting from the drop-down menu.

Your new privacy setting is automatically saved.

Editing the privacy for a post edits the privacy only for that post. If you normally post publicly and you change the privacy for one post to Friends, the rest of your posts will still be visible to everyone. You’ll need to make adjustments to future posts as well.
