How to Join Duplicate Contacts on Your Nexus 7

The Nexus 7 can pull contacts from multiple sources, such as Gmail, Google+, and other apps such as Skype. You may therefore discover identical contact entries in the People app. Rather than fuss over which entry to use, you can join the contacts. Here’s how:

  1. Wildly scroll the Contacts list until you locate a duplicate.

Well, maybe not wildly scroll, but locate a duplicated entry. Because the Contacts list is sorted, the duplicates appear close together (though that may not always be the case).

  2. Select one of the contacts to view it on the right side of the screen.

  3. Touch the Edit button as though you were editing the duplicate contact.

  4. Touch the Menu icon button.

  5. Choose the Join command.

The Join Contact(s) window appears. It lists suggested, similar contacts.

If you see no matching contacts, scroll the list of all contacts to find a match.

  6. Touch a matching contact in the list to join the two contacts.

The accounts are merged. Well, they appear together on your Nexus 7.

  7. Touch the Done button to finish editing the contact.

Joined contacts contain multiple sets of information. You can see the different sets when you edit the contact — each set features its own header that lists the contact’s source, such as Google Contact or Google+ Contact.

To split up a contact, edit the entry and choose the Separate command from the Menu icon button. Touch the OK button to burst the single entry into multiple contact entries.
