How to Insert an Image from a PC into a WordPress Post or Page

With the WordPress image uploader (and its Add an Image dialog box), adding images to a post or page is easy. You can add images in two ways — either from a location on the web (URL) or from your computer.

1

From the Dashboard, choose Pages→Add New to add an image to your page. If you want to insert the image in a blog post, choose Posts→Add New.

The Add New Page page (or Add New Post page) appears.

2

Click the Add an Image icon, which is the first icon to the right of the words Upload/Insert.

The Add an Image dialog box opens, enabling you to choose images from your hard drive or from a location on the web.

3

On the From Computer tab, click the Select Files button.

A dialog box opens from which you can select an image(s) from your hard drive.

4

Select an image and then click Open.

The images you selected are uploaded from your computer to your web server, and an Image Options dialog box appears.

5

Edit the details for each image by clicking the Show link.

A box that contains several image options appears.

6

Fill in the information about each image.

Type a Title, Alternate Text (shows in a browser if, for some reason, the image doesn’t load properly) for the image, Caption, and /or a Description of the image.

Type the Link URL you want the image linked to. You can click None (the image is not clickable); File URL (readers can click through to the direct image); or Post URL (readers can click through to the post that the image appears in (you can type your own URL in the Link URL text box).

Choose None, Left, Center, or Right Alignment. Choose Thumbnail, Medium, Large, or Full Size.

7

(Optional) Click the Edit Image button (below the thumbnail in the upper-left corner) to edit the appearance of each image.

The Add an Image dialog box appears. You can crop, rotate counter-clockwise, rotate clockwise, flip vertically, flip horizontally, or scale the image.

8

After you set the options for the image you’ve uploaded, click the Insert into Page (or Insert in Post) button.

The Add an Image dialog box closes, and you return to the Add New Page page (or the Add New Post page, if you’re writing a post). In the HTML view, you can see that WordPress has inserted the HTML to display the image(s) on your page; you can continue editing your page, save it, or publish it.

To see the actual image and not the code, click the Visual tab that’s just above the text box.
