How to Import Video Files to iMovie in iLife '11

As a part of easy-to-use iLife, iMovie caters to whatever video recording devices you want to use, including video clips imported into iPhoto from a digital camera or an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPod nano. You can also import MPEG-4 and QuickTime files and projects you already created by using iMovie HD. To import a video file, choose File→Import→Movies. To import a previously created iMovie HD project (from an earlier version of iMovie known as iMovie HD), choose File→Import→iMovie HD Project.

A dialog appears so that you can select the movie or project file from your hard drive.

  4. Choose Copy Files to copy the files into the iMovie clips library and leave the originals intact, or choose Move Files to move the files into the library and delete the originals (to save space).

  5. Click Import (or Cancel to cancel).

iMovie creates a new event for the video file or imported video clips in the project.
