How to Import and Export with Squarespace

If you're switching to Squarespace from another blogging or website builder, you may be able to you’re your process by importing your site’s content in the Import/Export screen.

To get to the Import/Export screen, choose Site Manager→Settings→Import/Export. You can also export your Squarespace 6 website content from the Import/Export screen. Let’s look at these options in more detail.

How to import content from another website to Squarespace

The website builders you can currently import from are

With each service, the import process varies, but the general steps follow:

  1. Choose Site Manager→Settings→Import/Export.

    The Import/Export screen appears.

  2. Click the Import Site button.

    The Import Site dialog box appears.

  3. Select the website builder from which you'll be importing content to your site.

  4. Following the instructions from the website builder.

    You'll be asked to enter login credentials, a URL, or import settings.

By importing your content, Squarespace can maintain old links and create redirects to your content’s new location on your site.

How to export your content from Squarespace

You can export your site’s content for importing to another site. Currently, your site’s blog content can be exported as-is for importing into a Wordpress.com site or a self-hosted solution from Wordpress.org.

To export your site’s blogs and pages, do the following:

  1. Choose Site Manager→Settings→Import/Export.

    The Import/Export screen appears.

  2. Click the Export button at the top of the screen.

    The Export Site dialog box appears.

  3. Click the WordPress logo.

  4. If you have more than one blog page:

    1. a.Select the blog page on your site that you want to export.

      The Select Primary Blog dialog box appears. Note: WordPress, unlike Squarespace, doesn’t support multiple blogs.

    2. b.Click the Export button.

      The Select Primary Blog dialog box closes and the exporting process begins, preparing an export file for downloading.

  5. Click the Download button.

    Your export file is downloaded and stored on your computer.
