How to Get Information from Department Competitive Intelligence Liaisons

As you meet with key competitive intelligence liaisons in each department, take the following steps to establish areas of understanding that will facilitate the effectiveness of the CI effort:

  1. Arrange a monthly appointment with the individual (in person, over the phone, or via Skype) to obtain information and to determine any specific CI needs the department may have.

  2. Send the following forms to the person a few days prior to the scheduled meeting, along with a request to complete both forms.

    • A competitive intelligence briefing sheet enables a department contact to supply you with information the person has gathered and explain the perceived significance of the information.

When coordinating intelligence gathering by department, act as though you’re creating your own social network, such as Facebook. Often, some of the best information comes to light during discussion when participants think of sharing information that they hadn’t considered important or just didn’t think of bringing up in the past. In other words, don’t stop with the form; engage in a conversation.
