6 of 8 in Series: The Essentials of Customizing an iWeb Site in iLife '11
When you want to change font attributes of text on an iWeb page in iLife, the Font panel is your destination. How you get to the Font panel depends on the text you want to change. To change
The font attributes of an entire box of text: Click the text box once. You can then click the Fonts button on the toolbar (or choose Format→Font→Show Fonts) to open the Font panel.Change the font for the selected text box.
The font attributes of a selection of text: Double-click the text box, and then drag across the text to make a selection. Then click the Fonts button to change the font. You can also change the text color by clicking the third button (it has the letter T and a color tile) along the top of the Font panel to open the color picker.Change the text color for the selected text inside the box.
The Font panel lets you set the font family, such as Times New Roman or Verdana; its typeface, such as regular or italic; and its point size. If you've ever used a word processor, all these options should be familiar to you. The collections feature of the Font panel may be new to you, though, especially if you're new to designing Web pages.
Fonts are organized into collections, such as Web (which are fonts that work well on the Web), PDF (fonts that work well in PDF files), Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. On the Web, using collections of fonts is standard practice because not every visitor to your site has access to the same fonts installed on your Mac.
You can create your own collections. Click the plus (+) sign to add a new collection, or select a collection and click the minus (–) sign to remove it. Click the Gear button to access the pop-up menu that lets you save the current font family, typeface, and size as a favorite, to show a preview, or to change the text color, for example.
When you want to change other attributes of paragraphs and lines of text — such as text alignment, margins, line spacing, or color — the Text Inspector is your destination. To unveil the attributes options in the Text Inspector, follow these steps:
Select a text box (or a portion of the text within a box) just as you do to open the Font panel.
Click the Inspector button on the toolbar to bring up the Inspector window.
Click the T button at the top of the window to open the Text Inspector.
Click the Text tab to show text attributes.Save your favorite font settings (left), set more attributes (center), and specify the color (right).
With these dialogs, you can customize the appearance of your text to get it looking just right.
