my problem is that I get a error message that states that the file has been moved, and the path to it is unknown. On powerpoint and word I had not sent any file anywhere. Now no files can be opened because the path to them is unknown. The only thing I can figure is it has something to do with the vista servive pack update and the explorer 8.0 update. Maybe if I do the office student 2007 update it will start working again. The last file I sent to removable flash media i sent the shortcut by mistake but before shortcut were not being created just the file so somthing has changed. also 15 or 20 file i did not write showed up on my word How could they get there?

This could be any number of things: (a) It's absurdly common for Windows "fixes" to break something, so it could be a result of your update. (b) If you don't have an Admin user account, you might not have full access to everything. (c) If you changed the name of an important folder -- even slightly -- you might throw Office of the trace; see if you can dig down to the file you want to open, then closely check the folder names. If this is mostly a problem with search, you might want to reindex, too. (http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-rebuild-a-search-index-in-windows-vista.html)

If you don't share your computer, and files are "appearing" in, say, your Recent Documents list in Word, it sounds like you have a security issue.
