How to Find a Transaction in Your Quicken 2010 Register

You can move around a big Quicken 2010 register by using the PgUp and PgDn keys. But if you want to find a specific check, deposit, or transfer in your Quicken account, the Find command provides a handy way for doing just that.

Choose Edit→Find & Replace→Find.

You can also click the Find button on the Transactions tab.

The Quicken Find dialog box appears.

In the Find text box, enter the piece of text or number that identifies the transaction you want to locate.

The case of the text doesn’t matter. If you type aunt, for example, Quicken also finds AUNT and Aunt.

In the Search drop-down list, select the field that Quicken should look at during the search.

You can choose from Amount, Cleared Status (the Clr field), Memo, Date, Category/Class (whatever is in the Category field), Check Number (what’s in the Num field), or Payee. Or get truly crazy and pick the All Fields list entry so that Quicken looks both high and low.

Select the appropriate matching rule from the Match If drop-down list.

This drop-down list has the options Contains, Exact, Starts With, Ends With, Greater, Greater or Equal, Less, and Less or Equal.

Select the Search Backwards check box if you want to look backward starting from the selected transaction.

If you don't check this box, Quicken searches forward from that selection.

Click either the Find or the Find All button to begin the search.

If you click Find, Quicken looks through the register, and if it can find a transaction like you describe, it highlights the transaction. If you click Find All, Quicken looks through the register and builds a list of all the transactions that are like the one you describe.
