How to Do Squats

Squats exercise your butt and hamstrings, but primarily strengthen your quad muscles. Doing squats requires no equipment, but adding a barbell intensifies the workout. This video shows both techniques, and more.

Good lord! 1/4 depth squats? Can you bend over at the waist any further? Just a little more and you get a Good Morning Squat combo!

How about keeping your head and chest up to prevent your torso from leaning forward as yours was in this video! Squat down as far as you can but not past parallel(unless you are a powerlifter)! But for gods sake, what ever you do, do not squat in a smith machine! The smith is a terrible piece of equipment that forces your body into an unnatural plane of movement. This causes strain on your ligaments and joints.

Our viewer's comment about paying attention to how far you bend at the waist during squats prompted us to rethink and reshoot this video. We listened, so take another look to see proper form!

This is a terrible squat, he is correct about keeping your knees behind your toes, but 1/4 depth squats are basically the same as banging your knee with a roofing hammer. Going past parallel is the only way to keep your knees safe. ATG = Ass to grass!!!
