How to Create Playlists Directly on Your iPod or iPhone
You can create playlists directly on your iPod or iPhone. To create your playlists, you’ll edit the library in your iPod separately, perhaps creating new playlists or changing the song information manually.
With the iPod or iPhone name still selected, create a new playlist by clicking the Add Playlist (+) button in the bottom-left corner of iTunes under the Source pane or by choosing File→New Playlist.
An untitled playlist appears in the Source pane under the indented list of playlists underneath the iPod or iPhone name.
Click the untitled playlist’s name twice, and then type a new name for the playlist.
After you type a new name, iTunes automatically sorts the iPod or iPhone list into alphabetical order.
Click any content type (such as Music) indented underneath the iPod or iPhone name to see the content items.
The content items appear in the iTunes List pane to the right of the Source pane.
Drag items from the List pane to the playlist in the Source pane.
The order of items in the playlist is based on the order in which you drag them to the list. You can rearrange the list by dragging items within the playlist.
You can create smart playlists on the iPod or iPhone exactly the same way as in the iTunes library. A smart playlist updates itself when you create it with iTunes and then updates itself every time you connect and select your iPod or iPhone with iTunes.
