How to Create Class Notes with Evernote iPad App

Evernote iPad app can store class notes across devices. Use Evernote in your iPad classroom to store text, audio, photos, and other digital content, and disseminate it to students when needed. You can also setup Evernote to accept digital content from your students.

Start by signing up for an account by visiting the Evernote website and selecting the Create Account option in the top-right corner of the Evernote home page. As with every web service that synchronizes content across devices, you need an account so that you can access your files from any location and computer (versions are available for both the Mac and Windows computers).

You can sign up for a free account or opt for the Premium account, which gives you additional storage and features. In most cases, it makes sense to start with the free account and assess your ongoing needs once you start using the service.

To download the Evernote app, tap the App Store icon on your iPad, type Evernote in the search field, and download the Evernote app. Once it’s downloaded, tap the app icon, and log in when prompted on the opening screen. You’re in!

Think of how you intend to use Evernote, and create the notebooks that represent the different categories of use. For example, you may want a notebook for taking notes in class. You may want a separate notebook for a project you’re researching.

There are many ways to add and edit notes in your Evernote notebooks:

  • Add a new note within Evernote. Click the New Note icon on the Evernote account page in your web browser or the downloaded software on your Mac or Windows computer, or tap the app on your iPad or mobile device. They all work the same way.

  • Type a subject line, and fill out the body with your text, images, or media. You can upload and attach any documents or images, and don’t forget that if you’re using your iPad, you can take a photo by tapping the camera icon or record sound by tapping the microphone.

  • Select a folder for filing your new note, and add some keywords in the Tags field to enable you to find the note easily. Separate your tags with commas.

    Anything you add to your Evernote account, no matter where you added it, is automatically stored in your Evernote account and synced to all your devices.

  • Save web content with Evernote Web Clipper. Save content from the web to your Evernote account with the Evernote Web Clipper.

    If you’re on a laptop or desktop, open your browser, go to the Evernote Download page, and scroll down to the section on Evernote Web Clipper. Select your browser from the list, and follow the download instructions to add a button to your toolbar. Save entire pages or highlight any part of the webpage you’re viewing, and click a button in your browser’s toolbar to save it.

    You can install a bookmarklet in your iPad browser and use the Web Clipper there as well, but it’s a lot trickier and takes a little fussing to get it working. If you’re brave enough to give it a whirl, open your browser, and go to the Support page. Type clipping webpages in iOS in the search field, and follow the instructions on the page. It’s worth the effort.

  • E-mail content to Evernote. Every Evernote account is given a unique e-mail address. To find your Evernote e-mail address, tap to start the Evernote app on your iPad and then tap the Settings gear button at the bottom right. Scroll down and tap Evernote e-mail address under Settings.

    Here are a couple of nifty little tricks that will make e-mailing content really simple.

    • First, copy the e-mail address, exit the Evernote app, and find your Contacts app. Tap to start and add a new contact. Call it something like Evernote, and paste the e-mail address into the e-mail field. You’ve created a new contact for your Evernote account.

    • Most apps on your iPad have functions for e-mailing content, whether it’s photos from the Photos app, webpages in Safari, or documents in Pages. When you e-mail the content, start typing Evernote in the To field (or any other name you gave the contact), and your Evernote e-mail address will pop up as the default.

    • In the Subject line of the e-mail, add an @ symbol and the name of the notebook you’d like to use for the note. Suppose that you want the content to be filed in the Research notebook. At the end of your Subject line, type @Research, and send the e-mail. Magically, when you open Evernote, you’ll see a new note in your Research notebook with the content you e-mailed.
