How to Create a WordPress.com Account

Creating an account on WordPress.com gives you a blog of your very own without the worry of finding a server. To create your WordPress.com user account, you need only Internet access:

1

Go to WordPress.com.

The main WordPress.com page appears.

2

Click the big Sign Up Now button.

The WordPress.com signup page opens.

3

In the Username text box, enter the name you want to use to log in to your blog from now until forever.

This username must be at least four characters in length with letters and numbers only.

4

Enter a password, first in the Password box and then in the Confirm box.

Choose a password that you can remember, but not one that would be easy for any outside users to guess.

5

Enter your e-mail address in the Email Address box.

WordPress.com uses this address for communication with you.

6

Select the check box in the Legal Flotsam section.

Selecting the Legal Flotsam box lets the WordPress.com folks know that you’ve read its terms of service.

7

Select either the Gimme a Blog or the Just a Username, Please radio button.

The Gimme a Blog option signs you up with a WordPress.com account and sets you up with a new WordPress.com blog. The Just a Username, Please option just signs you up with a new WordPress.com account, without the blog-setup part.

8

Click the Next button.

You’ll see a page with several text boxes relating to your new blog.

9

In the Blog Domain text box, enter what you want as your blog domain name.

It must be at least four characters (letters and numbers only), and you can't change it later, so choose carefully!

10

In the Blog Title text box, enter the name you want to give your blog.

Your blog title doesn't have to be the same as your username.

11

Select your language preference from the Language drop-down list.

Choose the primary language that you'll be blogging in.

12

Select the Privacy check box if you want your blog to be public; deselect this box if you want your blog to be private and not show up in search engines.

By default, this box is checked for you.

13

Click the Sign-Up button.

A new page opens with a message telling you that WordPress.com has sent you an e-mail containing a link to activate your account.

14

Check your e-mail and click the link contained within it to activate your new WordPress.com blog.

A page loads with a message that your blog is now active. That page also displays your username and password. You receive another e-mail from WordPress.com that contains your username and password, as well as some useful links for navigating around WordPress.com.

15

To log in to your blog, go to WordPress.com, enter your username and password in the login form that is displayed across the top of the website.

You can select the Remember Me check box if you don't want to have to sign in the next time you visit your WordPress.com blog.
