How to Create a Video Marketing Call-to-Action Overlay
After you draw viewers to your marketing video, you want them to then take action, by coming to your website, for example, or by signing up for your newsletter or even buying your product online.
YouTube advertisers use an attractive feature that lets you place a call-to-action message on top of your videos. This call-to-action overlay consists of a small picture, three lines of text, and a link to your website. It’s an effective way to draw YouTube viewers to visit your site.
Follow these steps to create an overlay:
Go to Google Ads and click the All Video Campaigns link.
Choose the campaign you want to change, and click the Videos tab.
Choose the video that you want to add an overlay to, and click the Add Call-to-Action Overlay link.
Add a headline and two lines of description text for your overlay.
This should be a strong call to action that entices people to click it.
Special offers always work well.
Enter the display URL and the destination URL that you want to use.
The display URL is the web address that people see in the overlay (www.acme.com, for example). The destination URL is the link to the page that opens when someone clicks on the overlay. It can be a product-specific page, such as
Add a small image, if you want.
The image has to be a picture, in a format of 56 x 56 pixels, that’s stored on your website. Add the full URL address of the picture in the Image URL field.
Click the Save button.
The overlay should become active almost immediately. Play your video to verify it.
