How to Create a Site in Dreamweaver

Defining a Dreamweaver site will go more smoothly if you have the files you plan to use in your website organized into a folder — with, if you wish, subfolders for images, video, and perhaps other elements like audio.

With your files separated into an organized folder structure, you’re ready to define a Dreamweaver site. To do so, just follow these steps:

From the main Dreamweaver menu, choose Site→New Site.

The Site Setup for Unnamed Site dialog box opens.
In the Site category of the Site Setup For dialog box, enter a name for your site.

After you name your site, the dialog box title changes to reflect your site name. If you name your site My Site, for example, the title becomes Site Setup for My Site.

This site name doesn’t have to be a web-compatible filename — meaning that it can contain special characters (like !@#$,) or spaces. This name is just an internal reference within Dreamweaver and is not shared in any way with visitors to your site. So, pick something descriptive that will help you remember which site this is.
Click the Browse for File icon (it looks like a folder) next to the Local Site Folder field.
Navigate to the root folder in which you organized your site content and then click Choose.
Click Save.

The Dreamweaver Files panel opens, displaying the content of your site.
