How to Create a Facebook Friend List

You can create your own Facebook Friend List, although for most people, Smart Lists can usually help you figure out who you want to see in your News Feed and who you want to share your own posts with. But sometimes you might want a specific list that Facebook can’t figure out. This might be a sub-sub-group, like all the people you played Frisbee with in college. In these cases, you can create your own list:

1

Hover over the Lists section of the left-hand menu on the Home page and click the More link that appears.

This brings you to a list of all your lists.

2

Click the Create a List button in the upper-right corner.

This pops up the Create a List window.

3

In the window that opens, type the name of your list.

You can always edit the name or membership of a list later by selecting the list name from the tab on the left of the Friends page. From there, you can change the name, or delete or add members. Also, whenever viewing friends on the Manage Friends page, you can add them to lists by selecting the Add to List drop-down menu to the right of their names (this appears when you hover your mouse over their name) and checking the list to which you’d like to add them.

4

Select friends who belong on this list by clicking their names or faces.

There is a small search box that says Enter a Name. If you begin typing there, you can simply click the person’s face as soon as you see it.

5

Click Create List.

Now, wherever Friend Lists appear on Facebook, including where you set privacy, Chat, the Inbox, and the Friends page, you have access to the new list you just created. It also appears on the left side of the Edit Friends page.

Friend Lists are private, so even if the list you’re messaging is known in your mind as Annoying Co-Workers, all that your annoying co-workers see is a list
