How to Apply for Passports Outside the U.S.

Citizens of countries beyond the United States apply for passports according to the guidelines and processes spelled out by the nations in which they live.

The following list offers information for residents of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom:

  • If you’re an Australian, you can pick up an application from your local post office or any branch of Passports Australia. You must schedule an interview at the passport office to present your application materials. Call the Australian Passport Information Service at 131-232, or visit the Australian government Web site.

  • Canadians can pick up applications at travel agencies throughout Canada or from the central Passport Office, Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ottawa, ON K1A 0G3 (800-567-6868) The official Web site has information available in both French and English.
