How to Add Widgets to Your Google Analytics Dashboard
When creating your own listening dashboard in Google Analytics, the first thing you need to do is make a list of possible goals for each social media metrics dashboard to focus on. This list isn’t be set in stone — it’s just a starting point. You can then add widgets to each one that support your goals and give you the information you need to move forward on them and adjust them as needed.
You’ll have a more generic dashboard as well, one that you (most likely) will check more often than the others. Google Analytics provides a pretty comprehensive one for you out of the box. You can choose to leave it as is or add widgets to include other data you think is important to follow daily, weekly, or monthly.
The first way to customize a Google Analytics Dashboard in the new layout is to add quick widgets to your main Analytics Home page, default titled My Dashboard:
Log in to your Analytics account.
Click the URL (domain name) of the site you want to set up.
Next to the domainname.com [DEFAULT] marker in the upper left, click the Home link.
Review the contents in the Home window and remove anything not relevant to your needs.
These windows of information are called widgets.
To add more or different content, click the Add Widget button.
The Add a Widget dialog box appears.
Choose the type of widget you want to add.
Your choices include metric, pie, timeline, or table.
Fill in the information requested.
You need to choose a metric type, a URL to track or a report to link to, and so on.
Click Save to save your widget.
Repeat the preceding steps until you’ve added all the basic widgets to your dashboard.
You can make several dashboards for different goals, so you don’t have to cram every metric that you want to track into one window. This window is meant to be your overview of daily or weekly metrics that you can glance at quickly.
